Keyboard Unfail

November 26, 2009 at 10:58 (Shoutouts, Sports Cards, The Trading Post) (, , , , , , )

The long national nightmare is over, I have a keyboard again. :P

Let us touch on a few things quickly before I go hang with da fam and watch football and eat so much turkey and mashed potatoes & gravy that it starts dripping out my ears!

First, trade packages were sended out to M. Ryan of Ryan’s Memorabilia Blog, Brian of Play at the Plate, and The Don hisself, Mr. Wicked Ortega late Monday afternoon.  And you’ll be pleased to know that I found the DeMetrius Williams Sweet Spot auto, Mike.  It’s pretty ridonkulous.  I have no idea if there be mail service on Friday or Saturday (I make up for my slowness by being oblivious! :P ), but if not, hopefully they will make it by Monday, and provide you all a slightly gentler landing coming back to earth after the long holiday weekend.

Addresses, I need addresses.  Who do I need addresses from?  I need addresses from Roll out the Barrell and Sooz of A Cardboard Problem so I can sends them stuff.  And I’d like to send stuff to Marie too, but I still don’t know if she wants any of the Linds/Canos/Martins/etc I have.

Ooh ooh ooh, here’s one for McCann Can Triple for when I finally get around to sending stuff to her late next summer (I REALLY hope I’m joking about that…).  Do you have many Braves hits, specifically Chipper Jones?  I got two Chipper jerseys in the five packs of 2005 topps Pack Wars I busted on twitter on Tuesday, and I was wondering if you’d like one of them.  I will scan them (and a bunch of other stuff) later today.  They are shiny.

I’ve gotten a TON of great cards in the last two days, and I can’t wait to scan them for you all to see.  So much stuff came on Tuesday and Wednesday that I didn’t even feel the need to stop in the card aisle on the way out of Walmart when I picked up the new keyboard.  An embarrassment of riches, to be sure.  I received all my larger things from eBay, and received a trade from Wicked Ortega that had one of the greatest cards I have ever seen, so business is about to pick up on the ol’ blog.  And somewhere in there, I will reminisce(sp?) about Allen Iverson, one of the greatest basketball players that ever lived, who called it a career yesterday.

Until our next… HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

To Do List~!

July 9, 2009 at 23:31 (Baseball Card Zen, In This Life, Shoutouts, The Trading Post) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

I intend to finish all these things before my box of 2009 Allen & Ginter comes, probably in the middle of next week, judging by the time my first box took.  These are in not listed by order of importance, by the way.  I’m just writing them as I think of them.

1.) Get all my baseball cards sorted by team (except for ‘08 Allen & Ginter and a couple others that I have a bunch of that may be useful to set-builders). [Somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3 of the way done I think.  Unfortunately, my urge to do the Gambit sketch card is outweighing going any further, but I think I did pretty okay overall.]

2.) Send SASE to Mario at Wax Heaven for the ‘09 Football Heroes inserts. [With the mighty Dayf's valuable information, I might be able to send this as soon as the next time I'm out.]

3.) Figure out what a SASE entails, because I’ve never sent one before. [Done- Wow, Dayf really is the expert at doing the bubble mailer version!]

4.) Finish MarieSooz‘ sketch cards.  Albert Pujols for Marie, Kevin Kouzmanoff and oh, maybe Gabe Kapler for Sooz. [We're all done... unless I add some color to Kouz, Kap, & Pujols.]

5.) Get the sketch cards, as well as the rest of Sooz’ trade ready to send. [Think I'm done, since I've only got about two cards that she's after.  Working on another trade with Marie as well, since I found my Canos, Jobas, & Phil Hughes'.]

6.) Get a bigger bubble mailer for the cards I’m sending to Matt of Heartbreaking Cards of Staggering Genius. [Done]

7.) Find the Bazooka Gold Chunk Aaron Rodgers rookie for what I’m sending to Matt, and then send the cards. [Yatta, I FOUND IT~!!  Always in the last place ya look. >.<  Also found a 2003 Donruss Elite Series Glavine #ed /2500 & some other stuff with it.  So, umm... w00t~!]

8.) SEND DINGED CORNERS THEIR FREAKING CARDS ALREADY~!!!!!!!!!!!  It’s only been what… 9 months, since you made that trade?  Good grief Lonestarr, send them something at least! [Asian players are packed up & ready to be sent.  Will send next time I'm out.]

Yes, I fail.

9.) Send Baseball Dad my pathetically small list of Sandberg cards. [Done- I had a few more Rynos than I thought!]

10.) Prepare some Indians to send to Baseball Dad. [Done]

11.) Get my Orioles cards organized to send to some people in the Orioles card blogger nation, just because. [Done.  Now when will I ever get around to contacting any of them?]

12.) Get my Washington Redskins cards in order because I want to make a trade with Chris from Sac Bunt because there are a bunch of cards on his trade list I’m interested in. [At least half done.  Will contact you soon about a trade, Chris.]

13.) This one I have to get done tomorrow.  Pay for the box of cards I picked up in the big sale at Dave & Adam’s. [Done]

14.) Get over wanting to call them Dave & Buster’s.  *stomach grumbles* [Done- Though now I'm doing the opposite! >.<]

15.) Get the UDX cards ready for McCann Can Triple. [Done, but need to to double-check them sometime.]

16.) Get some more White Sox Cards ready for Steve. [They are in order, but I'm not too sure I have anything he doesn't.  Will have to check later.]

All that’s left that I can do before I bust my box is to finish organizing my cards, send an email or two, and check a couple of want lists.  Won’t be able to send any stuff out until next time I’m out.

I will not open my 2009 Allen & Ginter box until I get pretty much all of this done.  I will check things off the list as I get through them, so you can keep up with my progress, especially if you appear on the list.  Let me know if I’ve forgotten anyone or anything, or if you want to be added to the list too.  It’s gonna be a busy week. :)

It’s go time~!

Blasters, We Got Blasters

March 1, 2009 at 13:12 (Shoutouts, Sports Cards, The Trading Post) (, , , , , , , , )

I picked up  another ‘08 Goudey blaster from K-Mart.  Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment.  At least if I’m gonna get a craptacular blaster, it’s half off right?  I’m starting to think I’m the only person who’s actually buying them, because the amount of blasters collecting dust never seems to get smaller.  I had my mom choose it since my luck has been so unflinchingly horrendous with blasters in general.  She didn’t do much better, but it wasn’t horrible overall.

I got a black & white  Derek Jeter for the unclaimed stack of Jeters waiting to be traded and couple more Red Sox to throw into my trade with Shoebox Legends.  And I got a Rod Carew and a Griffey for myself.  The real winner from this blaster though is whoever wants to trade for some Cardinals legends.  I got Stan Musial, Ozzie Smith Sports Royalty (the very last card in the last pack I believe), and Lou Brock.

This wasn’t all I got though.  I also went to Target and got an ‘09 Upper Deck Series 1 blaster.  And it was good.  I had my mom choose that one too.  She did better on it.  Cards of note include 20th Anniversary Retrospective cards of Michael Jordan and Margaret Thatcher, O-Pee-Chees of Randy Johnson and John Smoltz, a Black Ultra Rare Chipper Jones Starquest, a Gold Rare Griffey StarQuest (which I am keeping), and an uncommon A-Rod (no commons in this one *le gasp*), and a spiffy looking team USA card.  The guaranteed jersey was even good for once.  I got Josh Hamilton.  Sure kicks the stuffins out of the Zack Duke jersey from the ‘08 Series 2 blaster I got a few days ago at any rate.  Does anyone out there in blogland want it?  Or (almost) anything else from these blasters for that matter?  I’m only keeping the Cubs and Griffey, and the White Sox I already have a destination in mind for, but everything else is up for grabs.

I wanted to mention something about how these Upper Deck Cards look before I go.  To my eye the design is absolutely outstanding (special commendation for the bright and colorful Team Leaders subset) and even blows away Topps’ much improved ‘09 effort.  The base cards and inserts are all colorful (and this year’s StarQuests are a huge step up) as well, something that Upper Deck is not normally known for, but I really like it.  Whatever extra creative effort that may have went into the flagship set in 2009 really paid off.

I noticed almost immediately there seems to be one thing amiss though… and that is the photography.  Not to say that it is bad in and of itself, but it seems like a lot of the shots are so up close and personal that you could smell the player’s breath.  It may be an effect of the bottom border being closed off, but I’m not digging it, especially with Topps’ borders being smaller than usual and a good deal of their photography actually being on par with some of Upper Deck’s better efforts from the past.

Ok I’m all done here.  Seeyaz next time, when I’ll have a couple of possibly worthwhile ideas to roll out before I start dropping the occasional sketch on ya.

PS: And I might finally have the cards for Dinged Corners sent out by then too.  I may need your address though ladies.  I had found it awhile back when I was almost ready to send it out in I think December of last year, but I believe the bubble mailer with your address is long gone now.  And lets just say the lot (which was about 80 cards strong as of December) has gotten a little bigger since then.

By about 3x…

Shoutouts #4

November 10, 2008 at 00:58 (Shoutouts, Sports Cards, The Trading Post) (, , , , , , , )

This was supposed to go up before I crashed in the Wii hours of Sunday morning, but it didn’t happen.  I slept all day Sunday and went out almost immediately after I woke up, and forgot about it until now.  Hopefully I’m not responding too late for anybody’s liking, and apologies if I am.  Now hit me with them shoutouts.

A shoutout to anyone who can help… My WordPress internal clock issue still isn’t resolved, even though I’ve tried to change the timezone multiple times.  Why won’t it work?

Shoutout to TheKSwiss… While book value doesn’t concern me, if you can come up with something comparable hit-wise or something, you’ve got dibs on the ones you want.

In the interest of full disclosure, the Brad Lincoln got a dinged corner and Joaquin Arias I’m not sure if I want to trade just yet.  Everything else should still be in the condition I received them in.

Shoutout to one John Arnold, if you’ve still got your Cubbies, I’m still interested in a trade.  Is my e-mail address anywhere to be found here?  You’d think I’d know about that, but nope… ANYWAY, if it’s not there, just drop a comment with a little sampling of what you have and an approximate total number, who/what you collect, and an email address where I can contact you.  I will copy everything down and block the comment, and get in touch with you shortly thereafter.

Shoutout to Steve of White Sox Cards, who is due several White Sox cards from me, and will be the first to benefit from my junk hit streak from not so long ago.  Hopefully I will get your cards along with those going to Dinged Corners sent out by midweek.

Speaking of… SPEAKING of Dinged Corners, this shoutout to the lovely ladies that make that blog happen. (/RD Reynolds impression)  I found the bubble mailer with your address on it, so finally, mercifully, your cards will be sent very very soon.  And there are a LOT of them.

Shoutout to the person who designed 2008 Upper Deck Timeline.  You should be ashamed of yourself.  I’ve heard plenty of Upper Deck X bashing, but it at least fits the theme.  Timeline is easily the worst looking base set of 2008.  It just looks incredibly half-hearted, and that makes me a sad panda. :(

Shoutout to Boxbusters… One day I will remember your name, but that’s not the shoutout!  I’m feeling extremely lazy, so I will drop the trade thanks and make a request (pending shipping and safe arrival of trades with Dinged Corners and White Sox Cards) to be on the Trading Buddies page.

Here is what came in the return package, btw.  Sorry again about sammiching your end of the trade in here.

2008 Topps Allen & Ginter-

David Ortiz, Aramis Ramirez, Rich Hill, Felix Pie

2008 Topps Chrome-

Rich Hill

2008 Upper Deck X-

David Ortiz, Vlad Guerrero, Hanley Ramirez, Ken Griffey Jr., Big Z (x2), D-Lee (x2), Kerry Wood, Aramis Ramirez, Geovany Soto (the finest facial hair in baseball :P ), and KOSUKE!!!!

2008 Upper Deck Goudey

David Ortiz (lovable but vaguely menacing), Big Z, D-Lee, Aramis Ramirez

2008 Upper Deck Heroes

Ryan Theriot, Rich Hill, KOSUKE!!!!

Thanks again.

Finally a shoutout to whom it may concern.  This is an incomplete list who and what I collect: Chicago Cubs (especially Fergie Jenkins, Andre Dawson, Ryne Sandberg, Carlos Zambrano, Geovany Soto and Kosuke Fukudome), Vlad Guerrero, Ichiro Suzuki, David Ortiz, Fred Lewis, assorted legends, vintage (pre-1980), players in throwback jerseys, and 2006 Upper Deck Special F/X.

I will try to get everything sorted out in my head and put up an official page soon.

That’s all for now.

See you, Space Cowboy…

Shoutouts #3: Bad Way Day

October 16, 2008 at 22:20 (In This Life, Shoutouts, Sports Cards, The Trading Post) (, , , , , )

Oh man, my state of mind pretty much sucks right now.  I don’t even know where to begin.  I guess I’ll just do some shoutouts, since I have some to make.  I think, I don’t know.  I feel like s*** right now.  Lets see where it goes.

First, Mario Alejandro of Wax Heaven (pffft, as if you read mine first and need a link to go over there)… Thank you for the e-mail.  I never accused or ever even considered any actual bias on your part, but thank you for filling in the blanks and getting my facts all straight for me.  My recollections on some details were… hazy, and would have been even if I was well rested.  I stand by what I had to say and my overall message (whatever it was…), but I’m not sure I made my personal feelings on the matter clear.

Basically my personal feeling on it all is this: I’m glad JV shined the flashlight of truth or whatever on things, but ehh, it doesn’t really bother me.

This just handed to me… received another email from Mario saying not to worry about making an edit or anything.  Umm, too late? :P

Wow that was long… NEXT!

To the man behind the curtain over at Boxbusters, I’m glad you liked the cards I sent am eagerly awaiting yours.  Also, sorry I can never remember your name.  The combined memory capabilities of my parents is written into my DNA, so sometimes, names just don’t register like they should.

To Dinged Corners… it’s not like the package is even ready to go yet, but I don’t think I have the bubble mailer with your address on it anymore.  You said something about sending everyone that offered up on the Baseball Heroes trade a little something, so I’ll wait for that and send out my stuff immediately (I hope…) thereafter.

To the Sandman?  Where were you last night.  I was freakin’ tired, dude!

To Jacky Muffin, thanks for talking me down when I had that mental spazzout today.  You are the best.

Shoutout to whom it may concern… about the promised update to the internet romance saga I attempt to find myself in, against all the bananas odds.  It is getting interesting, but I have no idea how to explain right now.  Maybe I’ll know more soon.

I thought I had more, but I guess not.  My head hurts and I need to be up early and do crapola tomorrow.  So goodnight cruel world.  Things will be better after I sleep though.

See you, Space Cowboy

News & Notes

September 29, 2008 at 08:50 (In This Life, Shoutouts, The Trading Post) (, , , , , , , , )

My mind and heart have been elsewhere, so here’s what’s up (what’s up!!).

The cards for Bailey from The Nennth Inning have been ready to go for awhile.  They’ve been sitting on top of my computer monitor for close to two weeks waiting for my lazy arse to get to the post office.  The ones for Dinged Corners are a different story.  The sheer number of cards I’m sending will take too many of the little 25 cent cases I usually use to send out trades in, so I’m trying to come up with a better alternative.  I’ll figure it out and get them sent out by the end of November 2009… probably. >.>

The Brewers are beginning to annoy me.

I hate to admit it, but I’m starting to be interested in all the political BS this year.  And is it just me, or has business picked up steam later than usual this year?  It might just be the fact I haven’t really been watching much TV for quite awhile.

Speaking of which, I’m getting really tempted to dump my digital cable.  I really dispize Comcast for f***ing me around on my bill the first several months after they took over… but, the music and sports available in the high numbers, as well as WWE 24/7 and anime network, won’t let me from drop more than $7 or so worth of programming.  I have got to find a better (or at least comparable and cheaper) alternative to Comcast’s internet service though.  Read my lips Comcast… your internet service is NOT worth $35 a month.

I have all my stuff from September’s “money I shouldn’t have spent on eBay but did anyway” all here, but I’ve decided it’s better to hold off on dedicating any time or a post to them until I can do up some scans, or get a Photobucket or some such to at least link to or something.  If nothing else, my personal collection received a nicer than usual upgrade, for less than I usually spend on eBay.  I stayed pretty focused for once.  Hopefully that post will be up in the very near future.

I haven’t been eating much… since this spring really, and lately I’ve been having a hard time keeping down stuff, particularly outside my normal faves.  I’ve got a lower than normal appetite nowadays anyway.  I only eat a normal amount of food a couple times a week at most usually, just eating one big meal or snacking throughout the day this summer and into the fall.  All I’ve eaten, and felt like eating, in the last 24 hours is a 99 cent bag of chips and a Fudge Round, a third of a big tomato, and a little hunk of some kind of meat, a small amount of which I couldn’t keep down.  I haven’t eaten in at least 16 hours and I’m not very hungry, except for maybe something relatively simple like a bag of popcorn or some other similarly simple snack food.  Should I be concerned about this?

Sleeping has been a problem too.  Why do I have such messed up and disturbing dreams when I miss my meds for a day or two?  I am a vivid dreamer, but missing a day or two should not be causing such messed up ones.  That’s not what they are for.  How can a mood stabilizer (such as it is) do that, when such dreams were relatively rare before I started them three years or so ago?

I acknowledge I need to be taking something, even the small difference what I’m on makes in my mood helps, and for some reason they have the effect of helping me sleep a bit better, or at least a little more normal, albiet in a way that doesn’t feel “normal”.  I only seem to do the staying up 24-36 hours thing about once a week on them, compared to *most of the time* and only being able to sleep 3-5 hours when I actually do sleep when taking nothing.  I’m clearly not stable and always seem to be just a moment from snapping, especially when most everyone around me knows the buttons to push to make it happen, and push them with straight up impunity.  I should be on something, but… I dunno.

I wonder if just being able to sleep properly would soothe the monster in me just as well as the small positive effect given by what I’m taking now.  And I mean *ideally* without the effect of screwed up dreams and the unnatural lethargic feeling that goes along with the aforementioned side effect of this particular med’s sleepymaking.  Is there some other med(s), or mayhaps something more natural, out there that will help me out in a less problematic way?

And *FINALLY*, I was distracted for awhile with video games and I’m still feeling the gamer in me, but I’m falling back into the funk related to the “Arizona Ominous” post again.  I’d really love to be able to speak on it in more detail, but I just can’t.  All I can do is be vague in regard to the whole situation like that post was.  Suffice to say it’s really buggin’ the heck outta me though.

Until our next,

Me

Shoutouts #1

September 13, 2008 at 10:37 (Shoutouts, The Trading Post) (, , , , , , )

Just write something, it doesn’t matter what.  Maybe you won’t keep it, but you should at least write something every day.  So that is what I am trying to do now.  Quite honestly… I have no reason not to, and I should have been for a LONG time now.  No deep thoughts or intelligent talking points are coming to mind.  I’m just killing time because I’ve got nothing better to do right now.  So just write something.  I guess I can do a few shoutouts, say hey.

This shoutout right here goes to Patricia and Lucy from Dinged Corners- Thanks for the awesome lot of cards, I may have already sent out my end of the trade, if not for the fact that I’m still not sure what to send.  I don’t know how to quantify it, such a cool and random (heh, kinda like me) lot.  I’ll figure it out, get ‘em up, and move ‘em out.  Hopefully this will be soon.

This shoutout is for Bailey at The Nennth Inning- For somehow finally making me come back to my own blog.  I don’t know why, I’d been thinking about it for awhile, but you pushed me back over the top.  Maybe it just was seeing a cool new blog.  Whatever the reason, I’m back, and now y’all are stuck with me.  Ha!

Oh yeah, I should be able to get your cards sent out today.  They’ll at least get packed up and be ready for shipping on Monday, if nothing else.

This shoutout goes out to my Jacky Muffin- Are you okay?  I’ve been worried about you.  The way you left, it just… didn’t seem like you.  Whatever is goin’ on, please let me know.  Still my homepage, won’t be giving up or letting go until I know, and even then… I dunno.

This shoutout is meant for Ace- You f***ing douchebag.  Like it’s not already enough of a breach of trust to post an im convo online, but then to leave out parts to make the other person look bad.  Wtf is your damage, dude?

Finally we come to a shoutout meant for Derek- The cards still aren’t out man, but they will be soon.  I still haven’t seen those episodes of Gurren Lagann either.  How can I be any good when I can’t even manage that much, especially with all the prodding on the latter.

Hopefully this isn’t too much of a waste of space.  I had to say something, and this is the best I could come up with.  I guess if one of the above gets the message, than it’s cool right?  I’m still tired, so I might go back to sleep or something.  Getting up before the sun… is just not something I’m okay with.
