Cards from Marie and Matt

I got my prize winnins from Cardboard Problem and a fresh trade from Heartbreaking Cards at the same time and scanned them at the same time, so I might as well post them at the same time.  Plus I’m not sure which came which on one of the scans.  I may have mixed them on it, I dunno.  Anyway, pretty pictures ahoy!

These be from Marie. It appears the Cubs drew the better artists in Chicle, judging by these three. All solid, and Ernie is outstanding! Love the scoreboard shot! And the Prince is cool cuz I used to have a small collection of the guy and clever cuz the ticket is against the Cubbies. The terrible, terrible Cubbies. *le sigh*

The *literally* big prize. Johnny Mize cabinet card. Though a Cardinal, it's one of the prettier looking cards in the entire set, in my rarely humble enough opinion. And three mini 206 Cubbies (only one still with the team) for scale and because I couldn't fit normal-sized cards on the scanner bed with giganto Mize. I mentioned something somewhere about this being my first contest win, but I actually won a contest at White Sox Cards awhile before. Slipped my mind due to how quick that one went down (half hour, give or take).

And the rest, maybe. But what nice filler it is. All-Star Classics is one of my absolute favorite sets of the entire past decade. Been wanting a box for eons.

Now it gets confusing, though it’s a perfect segue from Marie to Matt I guess.  I don’t know which one these all came from, though the more I think about it, I’m pretty sure there is some from both in this scan:

If there's a choice between keeping Big Z or Dempster, I'm keeping Big Z. Every. Single. Time. Also, I heart blue refractors. 🙂

Now it’s definitely on to the Heartbreaking part of this post.

The King Felix collection gets some rare lovin' thanks to Matt. Noice.

Even though the D-Lee collection was officially closed almost immediately after this (but well before he was actually traded), that mmiddle row is freakin' sweet. And a new Kosuke (the Documentary one)!

Finally, the two cards that keyed this trade in the first place, the blue Fukudome & Vlad parallels. Also a cool D-Lee segueing into his tenure with the Cubs.

Great awesome cards.  Marie and Matt should both be expecting something in the mail before too long.  And with that, I’m outta here.

Until our next…

Do You Like Chrome?

I’ll be back to semi-regular blogging soon I think.  Got the card table and the cards are slowly getting organized and will begin being sent out in early August.  If those I owe cards or were in the process of working out a trade with would comment or email what I was supposed to be sending them, that would be helpful.  Thanks.

In the meantime, please enjoy these ’08 topps Chrome inserts, pulled from way too many packs from the $1.59 bin at Target awhile back.  All are available, as (well as the base cards) except for the Trading Card History cards. I’m thinking those may be a worthy set to build.  And the Mannyfractor is already set aside for Shoebox Legends if he wants it.

Now then, onto the cards!

Refractors: Swish, Kenji Johjima, Nick Markakis, Roy Oswalt, Jon Lester Heritage Chrome /1959, Brian Bass RC, Nate McClouth, Curtis Granderson

X-Fractors: John Maine, Justin Upton, Ryan Howard, Victor Martinez, Steve Pearce Chrome Heritage /1959, Randor Bierd RC, Prince Fielder, Jermaine Dye

Pudge, Pence, & Markakis 50th Anniversary All-Rookie Team, Mantle’s 470th and 480th home runs, and the big hit of the 24 packs: Joey Votto Heritage Chrome Refractor /559!

Trading Card History: Mannyfractor /400(I think), Cameron Maybin, Mickey Mantle, Alex Rodriguez, Magglio Ordonez, Vlad Guerrero

Apologies for the lack of captions on a couple pics.  I’m not redoing them.  So just thank WordPress for eating ’em & proceed.  Besides, you can click on the pics to make them ginormous & readable anyway.  Grrr…

Anyway, as mentioned, all but the Mannyfractor are keepers on the last pic.  Kinda just want to get them all one version.

Alright, I’m gone. for now.

Holla.

2008 topps Chrome from the $1.59 Bin

Exactly what it says on the tin.  I raided the newest stuff that had found it’s way into the discount bin at Shopko when I was in there on Saturday.  Also picked up two 2007 topps ’52 Rookies packs, a pack of 2008 Mayo football, and the most boring pack of 2008 topps Heritage ever made.  More on that stuff another time though; we all about the Chrome right now!  I got shorted a card in one pack, so only 27 cards.  This is everything:

6 packs 2008 topps Chrome 1

The Harden Refractor is a keeper until he ends up somewhere else...

6 packs 2008 topps Chrome 2

J-Roll is a blue refractor parallel #ed /200. And did those X-Fractors scan nice or what? Randor Bierd & Matt Holliday

6 packs 2008 topps Chrome 3

Grady's a Refractor if you can't quite tell. Manny's going to Wicked Ortega. Someday. Adam Jones is for Beardy. So's Prince Randor of Eternia if he wants him.

Everyone except for Harden (for now), Manny, Pacman Jones, & maybe Randorrrrr are available for trade.  Call ya shot.

Over and out!

eBay Winnin’s 2: The Legend of Curly’s Gold

Here’s some more pretty pictures of stuff I won on eBay, and almost all of it is up for trade.

Oh yes, it’s time for trade bait.  A whole mess of Bowman Baseball up for the tradin’.

Game Used Goodies!

Game Used goodies...

Jesus Delgado, Brent Lillibridge, Max Ramirez, Jeff Niemann, Matt LaPorta, Ramiro Pena, Brian Bocock game-used base (#ed to /135-ish, don’t remember for certain off the top of me head), Andrew McCutchen

Contemplating keeping the last two, but make an offer if you want ’em.  I’m willing to deal, for the time being anyway.

Maybin Mania!

Maybin Mania!

Cueto’s going to JD’s Daddy, but the Maybins are available…

Random dudes are random

Random dudes are random

Longoria RC, Brian Barton, & Melky Cabrera and Scott Van Slyke Gold Parallels

Huzzah!

Bowman Baumgarner & Porcello

I guess I got case break leftovers or something...

A Porcello will also be going to JD’s Daddy, but everything else is available.

Shinies

Shinies

Gallardo is another one going to JD’s Daddy, but the rest are available. Zach Jevne is #ed to /500 and Michael Bourn & Hank Blalock are #ed to… something. /250 maybe?  Cannot remember, don’t have ’em handy to check.

Bowman Autos

Finally, the autos...

I think Pie is with the Orioles now (poor fella), so if there is an O’s fan that wants it, I can give it up.  And the Phillies dude is Jason Knapp.

There ya go.  Aside from the three (Gallardo, Cueto, & one of the Porcellos) going to JD’s Daddy over at JD’s Wild Cardz, all are available until further notice.  Peace.

Does it sound wrong when I say besos?

Pack Breaks & Sketches

I got a couple fat packs of ’09 Topps Chrome at Walmart, cuz that’s what was available.  Seven cards and I guess two inserts or refractors per pack.

Pack 1

175 Bobby Parnell Mets RC- I am so sick of pulling Niese & Parnell rookies this year… I guess Max Scherzer found his anti-collection successors.

68 Jay Bruce- Jay Bruce got a Rookie Cup?  Really?  I didn’t think last year’s class was that weak.

129 Jeremy Bonderman Blue Refractor #ed /199- Blue refractors are nice, and less… odd, than bronze. For a flagship at least.

164 Ryan Zimmerman X-Fractor- Who needs an arbitrarily limited regular refractor of random color when you can have this?  The X-Fractors this year are officially SICK~!!  Gone is the s***ty over-the-top “static bling” of recent years, replaced by this much more subtle look… THAT MOVES~!!  This is the closest thing I’ve seen to an Atomic Refractor in years.  More of this plz.

90 Johan Santana

168 JD Drew

185 Everth Cabrera Padres RC

Checklist 3 of 3

Pack 2

97 Dustin Pedroia

147 Garrett Anderson

W8 Kenji Johjima World Baseball Classic- Have I mentioned how awesome I think the World Baseball Classic is?  I loooooooove it.  Keeper!

21 Brad Hawpe Refractor

19 Rich Harden- Keeper.

110 Jonathan Papelbon

121Francisco Rodriguez

Even if 2009 Topps Chrome’s design was total arse, it’d still be somewhat worthwhile entirely on the strength of it’s easily obtainable X-Fractors.  Fortunately, it looks good and has good photography from what I’ve seen too, so it’s a big winner all-around.  This probably won’t be the last of this I pick up, it’s right up there with Upper Deck X.

Also, to make up for lack of Chrome pictures (not that a scan could ever hope to convey the epicness of this years almost Atomic Refractor-quality X-Fractors), here’s a couple quickie sketches I did with a sharpie while sitting around downtown earlier this month:

Quickie Sharpie Sketch

Quickie Sharpie Sketch #2

Not too bad for 40-50 minutes combined when I’ve never done straight ink before I guess.

Until Our Next…
