I Just Had the Weirdest Dream…

Oh this could be interesting.  This is the dream I woke up from this morning.  I started writing this post almost immediately thereafter.  Enjoy.

There I am, well, that younger version of me that I still am in my head due to the disconnect in my body & mind that I’ve mentioned before.  But anyway, there’s my 17-ish year old inner-self, and… Wicked Ortega, and a girl… she’s fictional, I think.  But she’s very familiar to me for some reason, though I can’t quite place her.  Perhaps she’s from a different dream (I want to say from the “Matt’s Magic Arcade” one if that be the case), or perhaps an amalgamation of real people.  Let’s call her dreamgirl, for the sake of giving her a name.  Anyway, there we are, I guess we were trading cards or something.  In what appeared to be the middle of nowhere?

Things seem to be going whatever qualifies as normally I guess, when who should show up but @neilhimself… Yeah, Neil Gaiman is in this dream.  And apparently he is an alien.  What a world.  He wanted to take us… somewhere.  I’m not sure where exactly, but it sounded like the extent of it is that he wanted to teach us how to be great salespeople… um, okay?  I dunno if it’s Alien Neil’s homeworld or just some intergalactic conference, but anyway, even the space case that is me seemed to become a little dubious once Alfredo and dreamgirl show their misgivings.

Dreamgirl, who’s about the same age as my inner-self I think, really didn’t trust Alien Neil and left.  Then Neil jets too, but left Wicked & me this cheesy ’50s B-movie flying saucer thing to follow him to wherever he went.  Reluctantly we get in and the thing takes off by by itself.  I thought we were leaving the planet now, but nope, it was just taking us to another part of the world.  I don’t think the saucer was deep-space worthy anyway, the door didn’t want to shut as it was taking off.

On the flight, which at the speed it was going, must’ve taken us at least halfway around the world from whatever field we were in, I was nervously going through a smallish stack of baseball cards I think I received from Alien Neil Gaiman.  I think we all received a stack, but yeah, baseball cards made a small cameo.  I don’t know what cards where there exactly (I want to say there was some crazy early 2000s stuff though, judging by the thick cardstock), but I do know there were two UD Masterpieces cards that I put on the top & bottom of the stack because they have no gloss.

Right, so we finally landed, though I’m sure exactly how long it took.  It seemed to be here, this city I live, but it was… much more expansive.  There were skyscapers downtown and there was an ever-so-vague near future vibe.  Neil was there, and somehow dreamgirl showed up shortly after, despite us seemingly making a long trip at supersonic speeds.  I guess since we were all up in those skyscrapers (the saucer landed on one), Alien Neil Gaiman gave us flying, Silver Surfer-style surfboards and goes off to get ready to go I assume, while we messed around on the flying surfboards and considered going with him.

Finally, we were sitting around a table discussing going with Alien Neil.  Dreamgirl was still way mistrusting.  Wicked seemed cautiously curious.  After I woke up but was still kinda in the dream, he mentioned being sorta tied to earth because he has a family.  And me, I was making peace with the fact that it could go horribly wrong (something about a quote about wanting to see the stars, but not necessarily being welcome when you get there), but I didn’t have anything to lose, nothing much to stay for (though for what it’s worth, Ms. L, I did admit a few people might miss me).  I was pondering all the terrible things that could happen to me if I went, and rationalizing that while they might be painful ways to go, they’d all be quick at least.

Unfortunately, I woke up before we could get any further.  I wasn’t sure if The Don was going, but I had convinced myself to go (not that it took that much).  It looked like dreamgirl might end up very begrudgingly going if I went, because apparently I am a bumbling idiot that needs someone to keep me from doing stupid sh*t or something.  I dunno, but there’s some degree of reality in that thought, even if it’s just my own lack of self-confidence talking.

So yeah, there ya go.  Feel free to analyze away.

Maybe generic Honey Bunches of Oats right before sleep isn’t the best idea…

Check Out My Cards, Cards

I had $16+ leftover from stuff in my paypal account for awhile, and hadn’t felt like messing around on ebay, so I took it over to Check Out My Cards.  I’d looked around there several times before, but never pulled the trigger on anything, but this time, I found some cool stuff I decided I must have.

Before we begin, I didn’t make any offers on anything.  I dunno if there’s a long wait on it or not, but I just wanted to get my stuff and be gone.  I’m comfortable with the prices paid, so it’s cool.  Maybe I’ll try that out another time, because there will definitely be another time.  The transaction was smoother than an analogy I’m too tired to make, so I’ll be going back.  Give it a go yourself sometime, if you haven’t already.  It’s a cool place, despite card pricing being based on “book value”.

Enough jibba-jabba.  Without further ado, here’s what I got for my $16 and change:

Picked up a little Braves trade bait. Anyone in the market for a little LaRochey illegible autographness?

Sweet, I can finally put in pictures.  The Flash upload wasn’t working.  Fortunately, you can do it the old fashioned not flash way too, so I can do this post instead of complaining about my deteriorating mental state, due to my sleep issues sinking close to all-time bad range.  Incidentally, I’m starting to feel a little like when I tried that nasty 5-Hour Energy stuff not too long ago (minus the actual energy).  It kinda feels like… being all there mentally, understanding and thinking, but not quite being in control of the thoughts.  It’s unnerving as hell.  No likey. 😦

Wow, that would’ve been a much shorter post than I expected.  I could’ve done the quickpress thing and been done and gone to sleep by now, lol.

Cat Osterman and some other dude. Not for trade. The Mojo Hand probably has it anyway. My Kitty collection stands at three after the two I picked up at teh COMC.

Paid way under a buck apiece for the two Cat’s.  LaRoche was inexpensive too.  It’s really just the last two cards in this post I might possibly have been able to knock a buck or two off of making an offer.

Cat = shiny intensity

Cat is pretty tall.  I think she could use my head as an armrest (and I’m not even that short!).  It’ll be soft place to rest her arm at least.  I have enough hair up there to put in cornrows, and I have every intention of getting them one day.

This intermission sponsored by soggy Volcano Nachos… mmm. 😛

And now, for the main event.  It’s Kosuke time!  We’ll start with a card that makes topps’ Ridiculous Gimmicks Departmant blush (even though the card may quite possibly not be a gimmick at all).

Looks like a jersey card right?

Well guess again, Chachi.  That swatch is just a picture, and the card itself is no thicker than your average base card.  Just what the heck is this shiznit?

Here's the back. It's a non jersey card. Umm, yeah... what?

BBM: Hey topps, those Heritage High # cards.  The Jeter with a Red Sox logo and Dustin Pedroia with a Yankees logo.  That’s great… FOR ME TO POOP ON!

This has got to be way up there with the weirdest cards ever made.  And look, it’s number M2, so apparently there is at least one other card like this, maybe even an entire set!  Madness… Yet, it’s kinda growing on me.  I mean, it’s a Fukudome card, so there is already redeeming quality to it, but the sheer brazen absurdity of it all makes me chuckle.  This was actually the most expensive card in the lot, at or just shy of $5 (too tired too look, I’ve been up since before 11am… yesterday morning).  Uh, oops. >.>

Matsuzaka, Johjima, Fukudome Sweet Swatch triple

I think I mentioned recently that I wouldn’t search out and aquire any ’09 Sweet Spot relics, but I said wouldn’t get them on eBay.  Yes yes, taking advantage of the untintional loophole I gave myself sure is clever.  I didn’t even know the jersey cards went past dual in ’09 Sweet Spot until I saw this and few other triples at COMC.  Second, while it’s not like they are card of the year-level good looking, this kicks a single swatch Carlos Lee upside the head (sorry to those that have pulled a single swatch Carlos Lee), and looks a bit better than the fugly singles as well.

Alright, that’s all the cards.  I’m barely coherent at this point (actually dozed off for a few minutes), but I do have a little more to say before I go.  I want to thank everyone who commented on my last post for the words of encouragement.  It means a lot.  Thank you Wicked, Shane, Tim, Ken, and Ms. Latina♥.  It’s cool to know that what must be at least half of my entire regular readership consists of some of the absolute coolest people to have an internet connection.  Y’all rock. 😀

And I will see what I can do about a collecting for beginners post after apartment inspections early next week (I r slob, have lots of cleaning to do), Ms. L.  I think I can probably do a pretty decent post on that subject.

Here’s another tease for my big retail hit to go out on.  Not that this actually tells anyone anything about it, but only one card I’ve ever owned (still own it, actually) has sold for more than what I saw this one sell for on eBay the other day.  And with that, I bid you all adieu.

Looking for paradise… or a good night’s sleep.  That’d be cool too.

Good News, Everyone!

I’m back on track sorta with the bloggin’ and tradin’ & stuff.  The joy.  Here’s what all is happening.

Within the next couple hours, five bubble mailers with cards in them will be going out to the following peeps:

Marie of A Cardboard Problem (and I totally forgot the sketch card, so you’ll be due for another eventually), Shot Not Taken, Stats on the Back, Nachos Grande, and umm, someone else (sleep-deprived brain can’t remember last one).

That still leaves soon to be sent packages to Sooz also of A Cardboard Problem, Night Owl, Great Sports Name Hall of Fame, Roll out the Barrel, and… I’m pretty sure there are a couple more.  If I did miss anyone else, please let me know!

More good news!  I finally got that last bunch of scans with trades & stuff, and did a couple more of the I picked up from Check Out My Cards.  So I will have some pretty pictures to go with my pithy commentary again, lol.

Side note: Lacking scans and not having much card stuff to write about lately, and seeing this recent post from Ms. Latina gave me much to think about, and I actually started a post along the lines of that subject (race/ethnicity if you don’t want to click the link).  I’m sure it would’ve been interesting, and I may still do it if I can find the words.  And not that it has or ever will stop me from writing about other things, but I am curious about something.  Does anyone even care or pay attention when I write about anything besides cards?

Finally, despite massive sleep problems of late, I do have personal good news too.  I got a HUGE hit out of a retail pack at Walmart last night.  Let’s just say, I also picked up a couple Topps206 packs in the hopes of maybe getting lucky with a relatively easy to pull (1:41 pack) auto, but I ended up pulling something considerably harder to get than the hardest pull from 206 retail, which itself is a little over 1:500 packs.  Oh, and it’s someone good too.

Was that a great tease or what? 😉

Write on, ride on…

Sketch Cards!

I’m not sure if anyone who reads my blog really cares about my artistic pursuits, or the total fail that is my writing pursuits thusfar, blogging about stuff aside.  I’m just happy to have readers at all.  It’s pretty cool to know that even if only a few people can hear you, they take time out of their busy lives just to read what you have to say.  So anyway, like I said, I don’t know if anyone really cares about these wannabe artistic person posts, but I do have a few more finished sketch cards I’d like to share.

Batman!

I almost left the rest after I colored in the mask, cape, and emblem, because I liked the way it looked, but I think coloring the whole thing was for the best.  Although now that I look at it, I should probably do a little shading on his face and chest under the cowl. *sigh* Hopefully I can finish this one in less takes than Dr. Strange.

And now for the good doctor himself:

Dr. Strange sketch card

This was INTENSE.  It took me at least four tries to get it like this, and I feel like I can officially say that this one is done.  Finally!

Be advised, it may be about to get a lil PG-13 up in hurr.

Phantom Lady sketch card

Yeah, I don’t know how you fight crime in that outfit either.  Multiple takes on coloring this one too, since I (admittedly inadvertently) picked up a the right markers for the job on my last trip to the art store.  I went back and added the brown over the orange background and shading on the green & yellow parts in round two.  I’m not entirely displeased with how it turned out.

Now for some Cleveland Indians and great sports movie bait:

Wild Thing!

Rockin’ it baseball card style with Rick Vaughn.  I didn’t try to go straight portrait on him.  Turned out okay though still, methinks.  Trying to do my sig in old school topps logo style was pretty fail, but just close enough to know what I was aiming for, I think.  On the back it is noted as being a 1/1, lol. 😛  I may be arsed to do a little more face shading and make the skull less lame now that I have a gold gel pen on hand.  And don’t even get me started on that logo!  Holy crap is it ever hard to draw that small!

Finally, one I’m not done with yet, but one I must show, though I don’t think it comes close to doing it’s subjects the slightest bit of justice…

Blog Stars Ms. Latina and AnotherMaria future dual TTM autograph card!

Migdalia & Maria

I heart them so.  But alas, the coloring… did not turn out awesomely.  So much to fix there.  Ms. L came out way too pale and I don’t think I got Maria’s skin tone right either, though it might be okay since I used a pretty dark picture.  And that arm… dang, what was I thinking?  I goofed up on her hair too I think, but it’s far less noticeable.  I’m so sorry, ladies. m(_ _)m  My coloring skillz need a lot more work it looks like.

Also, on top of all that fixing I’m somewhat reasonably certain I might be able to pull off (maybe), the gold gel pen will be used on the line in the middle, and maybe on spaces where the autographs go.  I confirmed that a sharpie marker should write over the gel pen coloring just fine, and I think whatever color they choose to use on gold that has a slight, uhh, shimmery-ness(?) to it when light hits it right, will look awesome. 🙂

I hope you enjoyed my latest foray into trying to draw pretty pictures.  Feel free to commission me if you like my stuff, not that I’d know what to charge.  The cards above (except for the last one, obviously) are available as well, though it turns out only one is truly done.  Details, details.  It’s all in the details.

Now then, it has been a long day and night.  I bid you adieu, for now.

Until our next…

Quick Hits

Just have a few of notes to mention tonight, since I’m not up for the 3-5 hours it’ll take to do a post for my first trade Wicked Ortega (It was big!  I don’t think the 9 or so scans I did was more than 40% of the package), which is the only other thing I have handy to talk about at the moment, since my Allen Iverson post is now moot (and I couldn’t be happier!).

I finally got around to doing a bunch of scans of eBay stuff, pack breakage, my second trade with Wicked Ortega, the clunkers and more from Roll out the Barrel, a few other random cards, a couple sketch cards I finally finished, and some quickie sketches from one of my sketchbooks.  And then I forgot to bring them back to my place… Yeah, I suck. -.-;

Anyway, you’ve got that stuff to look forward to when I do finally get all that good stuff over here.  And I’ve got a box of Fantastic Four Archives I picked up on Blowout Cards over the weekend to look forward to arriving near Christmas.  Here’s hoping for a really cool sketch card.

Speaking of sketch cards, does anyone know where I can get some binders on the really really cheap?  I need one for my sketch card and Benchwarmers collections, and probably ones for other stuff eventually.  My ginormo 2005 Bowman Heritage redemption binder won’t hold my random insert/WBC collections and player collections forever.

Provided I pick up some more cases, cards will be going out, starting this weekend, to the following peeps: Nachos Grande, Shot Not Taken, Roll out the Barrel, Night Owl, and The Great Sports Name Hall of Fame, and possibly another 3-5 more to be named later.  It’s gonna be a busy month, or what qualifies as such for me.  Fortunately, there are no $7+ packages here, so I won’t break myself with all this.

Hmm… I thought that was it, but since I just now finished a couple more sketch cards, I thought I’d mention them.  Rick “Wild Thing” Vaughn and Batman are now done.  I will scan them someday.  They’ll be available for sale or trade or something maybe.  The blog stars of AnotherMaria and Ms. Latina I’m coloring as I type this very paragraph won’t though.  Once I finish it, I’m going to send it off to each of them to sign.  It will be my first TTM auto. ♥ 😀

Goodnight, and apologies for such a crappy, halfhearted post.  Maybe the next one will be better.

Maybe.

You’re thinking of tacos…

Keyboard Fail

My keyboard is no longer working, so no more posts until I get a new one tomorrow.  I’m sure as heck not writing enough for a proper post with this on-screen.  A real shame too, I just woke from a dream about baseball cards.  Let’s just call it ‘anime-esque’.  And I need also to reveal the results of my 2005 Pack Wars twitter 5 pack break here on the blizzog.

And that concludes my short burst of energy.  Back to sleep I go, till at least 4am hopefully.  Goodnight, sports fans and uber-sweet blogger ladies I have a crush on.

43 home runs?? Seriously?

Random pictures I can do…

(Edit: Just found a contest guess from Stats-on-the-Back in the spam comments between a long ranty spam about flu and medicines or something and spam for… semen pills. Umm, yeah.  Sorry you got lost in the shuffle.  Hopefully I can find something especially useful to send in return for your particular clunkers.)

Going out on a (Hall of Fame) High note!

My last ’75 to show.  Urgh, goodnight again…

Besos.
