Collection Transactions, Part Whatever of Infinity

Finist Prodigies Yu Darvish..

Since I don’t really have anything interesting or useful to add at the moment (haven’t scanned anything since 2/15), but still feel like I should put something on here, I’ll toss up a few scans from January’s COMC shipment that have don’t really have anything to do with anything, and make note of a few updates to the ol’ collection.

First up, now that Robinson Cano has proven playing 82 games a year in a ballpark not designed around his particular set of skills isn’t a hindrance in the slightest, thus strongly negating the Yankee taint of one of the few Yanks I’ve ever really liked, I have added him to the Single Page Sensations page.

The only card relevant to the post.  This is staying on the 2014 Canvas Collection Single Page though..

I’m also adding Kenny Lofton, because he had a stint with the Cubs and is on the all-time underrated team.  He is yet another Hallworthy player that got knocked off after his first shot on the ballot.  Not surprising, since it’s going to be a monumental struggle to get an even better player in Tim Raines in, but still total BS.  Nearly 70 career WAR?  Piss off, jabroni.  Screw the Hall of Fame.

Archives Frank Thomas Triumvirate..

Forget scanned, I don’t even own any pageworthy Loftons yet.  So here, have an Archives Frank Thomas Triumvirate..

I made quintet of new set additions to my Single Page Sensations wantlist: 1996 Fleer Ultra Gold Medallions, 2014 Topps Upper Class, as well as 2015 Topps Spring Fever, purple Toys ‘R Us parallels, and Gallery of Greats.  I’m also making my need of a page apiece of base for every year of Panini Golden Age (non-baseball subjects preferred) a priority, so if you got a pack of any of them laying around, hit me up, I might be able to use some of them.

After getting my hands on a couple, my lone full set addition I’d like to get my hands on is the 40-card, Walmart Exclusive Sting insert set from 2015 Topps WWE.

Finally, the big one.  Taking a page out of Gavin’s playbook, I want cards of any and all players named Caleb, as well as any variations on the name (Kaleb, Onterio McCalebb, etc).  There are a surprising number of players and a couple non-sport cards bearing the name, but none who have really done anything of note at the pro level, so this shouldn’t be a hard collection to do.  The reason I’m finally breaking down and doing this, without going into details, is a neurotic, therapeutic one.

The only players I know I have a card or two of are Gindl, Clay, and the aforementioned Onterio.  I have no set limitations or expectations on this collection yet.  I’m just going to wait and see where it goes for now.

Ending on a sexier note, with two very talented NXT gals on very different trajectories..

And that’s all I got for now.  Will try to be less half-assed in the future.  Thanks for stopping by!

Gonna fly now…

Protesting SOPA and PIPA

I’ve set my blog to be blacked out in protest of SOPA and PIPA from 8am-8pm today.  These despicable bills must not be allowed to pass because are fundamentally, fatally flawed on every conceivable level.

Here’s a nice look at how screwed we all are if this passes: LINKY

So yeah, these horrible abominations of RIAA/MPAA fuckwittery have to die so hard nobody will ever even be able to try to resurrect them again without the horrible stench of astoundingly reckless violation of basic common sense/sanity/human rights/etc irrevocably destroying their careers.

It’s not about piracy, it’s about the shortsighted greed and desperation of the outdated big boys.  And if either of them pass, we all pay dearly.  Good night and good luck.

Arm your DeSOPAs and ATTAAAAAAAAAAACK!

Fail.

Just when I think I’m back in, they pull me out. On January 2nd, my computer got attacked, for all intents and purposes, was destroyed. Fortunately, I was able to get my parents old computer a few days later, to get me by until I can get myself a new computer. After a few more days, I was finally able to get back online. The reason it took so long… may have been accidentally self-inflicted, but that’s neither here nor there.

So I was all ready to jump back into blogging regularly after finally getting back online (something like 11 or 12 days ago at this point), when I discovered that all the old scans of mine leftover on this computer, and the more recent ones I saved the emails to… I can’t edit them into smaller chunks on this computer. Not in any way that I can remember anyway. So I’m still not back yet I guess, and won’t be for at least a little while longer. I saw a pretty good computer (with glorious hi-def monitor included!) that I can afford by February if it or something like it is still available at that price, or deity of your choosing-willing, less.

But cards?! It’ll be a loooong time before I can afford anything very meaningful on that front again. A couple cheap packs here & there perhaps, and maybe I can squeeze in a group break or two, and the rare (yet somehow disgustingly not rare enough) visit to eBay, but I’m cutting my card spending by at least half. Video games have been loudly calling my name again, so I’m looking at a PS3, and I could use a laptop too. In other words, the ol’ budget’s gonna be tighter than an analogy I’m too distracted to make. Fortunately, I still have loads of cards to get rid of, and will still have way too many even after all the trades I’ve let my end down on for way too long are at long last taken care of.

As far as the blog goes, I’m not back, but I’m not entirely gone either. I have something like a three post buffer from before my old computer got torn a new one, and just enough edited down to size scans handy for a couple more if I get a minute. You’ll start seeing all that jazz soon. Until then, I’m Pro Bowl Shufflin’ outta here.

To Hawaii and beyond!

There ya go, the same two chrome prospects/WBCs showed up in the next packs as base cards.  Man Topps, couldn’t even kick in a refractor to make my butt hurt a little less?  Wasn’t expecting greatness, but apparently my expectations were too high since I didn’t expect stupidity.

I was very heavily considering a hobby box of this in the near future, because for once, I actually liked Bowman a lot this year… but I’m never going to buy so much as another pack of it ever again without a damn good explanation.  And this combined with the f***ed up patch from my Series 1 Topps blaster awhile back, I don’t think I’ll be getting any more Topps blasters of any kind for a helluva long time either.  And knowing Topps pulled this sort of crap with the National Prides, Baseball Highlights Sketches, and possibly the Hoodwinks in Allen & Ginter, I’m not even feeling buying anymore of THAT anytime soon, and A&G is my favorite set of the year.

Way to go Topps, another satisfied customer.

ARE YOU SERIOUSLY JOKING???

Big Z No-Hitter Thoughts

So, yesterday I heard Skip Bayless say there should be an asterisk by Carlos Zambrano’s no-hitter.  I understand where he’s coming from, even being the huge Cub fan that I am.  It really wasn’t fair to play the games in Milwaukee, and the away uniform protest by the Astros was… warranted.  The problem is this though…

While deciding to play the two games at Miller Park in Milwaukee was pretty shady on Commisioner Selig’s part, the problem is that the Houston Astros were primed to be no-hit ANYWHERE outside the state of Texas.  Their hearts were clearly not in the game, as I believe it was Hunter Pence suggested on Cold Pizza (which will NEVER be First Take to me).  They could have played in Atlanta as Dayf mentioned being under consideration.  They could have played in my idea of Kansas City, even if the Royals were at home at the time, which I don’t know for sure.  KC is about as close to right in between Chi-Town and Hous-uhh… Town, as it gets.  Hell, they could have played at Gerald Field from Hey Arnold!, but the Astros’ hearts would still be back home staring down the hurricane.  Their one hit in game two proves that.

And pretty much no matter where they went outside of Texas, the Cubs fans would still be outnumbering the Astros fans at least 60/40.  There are Cubs fans literally everywhere in this country, and I think the majority of them are legit, and not bandwagon jumpers, though I’m positive there are plenty of them too.  Regardless, no matter where the Cubs go in recent years, the crowds seem to be made up of no less than 30% Cubs fans.  No way a neutral site outside of Texas will produce a crowd with a Houston Astros bias, unless about 10,000-15,000 Astros fans are flown in for the games.

Even though the Commish (who is only an Interleague Play and World Baseball Classic above George W. on the competence scale of people in positions of power) couldn’t have chosen a worse place for the games to be played, I could still see the no-hitter happening just about anywhere.  No matter where they played, the Astros hearts never left the state of Texas, and they weren’t going to get a pro-Houston crowd regardless of where they went in this country.

As they say, it is what it is, and what it is was a no win situation that the Astros were put in.  Everything possible seemed to be working against them, including the league itself.  The Cubs just happened to be in the right place at the right time to capatalize and did so spectacularly.  It’s unfortunate, but if the Astros are strong enough mentally, they can use this whole situation as motivation for their wild card push.
