Shiny Legendary Shortprints

Oh yeah!  Time to post these bad mamma-jammas up!  All from my latest order from COMC.  Hawk & Hurt & Monte Irvin aren’t available, but the rest can be had, though I’m a bit partial to the Kaline, Reggie, Feller, & McCovey.  As such, they will slightly-to-much be harder to get than the rest.  I’m a little more after regular versions (all other years 2009-present included) of random legends to keep for myself, but if you have ANY version of Frank Robinson, Ernie Banks, Ryne Sandberg, Expos Andre Dawson, A’s Frank Thomas or any version of White Sox Frank and Cubs Dawson, I am most interested to deal indeed.  But enough chit-chat, time for pretty!

Get drunk on liquorfractors!  I’m totally making this scan my twitter background pic..

Some really cool photos chosen for some of these..

Well, there ya go.  Have at thee!  The available ones will go up on the for trade page overnight.  I also have a few others not pictured here.  Carlton Fisk Diamond, Pee Wee Reese Cognac, Honus Wagner Cognac, a couple different Jimmie Foxx (both Diamond I think).

And here’s Frank.  He got his own picture because I can nine cards at a time is the most I can scan, and since he was a keeper, Big Hurt Cognac stands alone.

This would be a good picture to link to an ad for Big Hurt Beer, but I won’t..

That’s or for this one, sports card fans.  Shoot me an email if you see something you like.  Also, just so there’s no confusion… MY EMAIL IS ON MY BLOGGER/GOOGLE PROFILE LINKED ON THE SIDEBAR UNDER “I WANNA TALK ABOUT ME”.  Ahem.  Sayonara and thanks for stopping by!

Until our next…

The Trading Post: Marie of A Cardboard Problem

Hey all.  So I guess I’ll start with the most recent trade to arrive and work my way back.  This package arrived sometime between Tuesday and Thursday this past week from Marie of A Cardboard Problem.

Some specific Cubs player collections..

A nice mix of specific Cubbies I collect.  The only one here I might have already is the ’10 Aramis Chrome.  The Attax look great!  Which reminds me… The random coupon generator at Target finally spit out something useful last time I was in there.  It gave me a $2 off an Attax starter set coupon.  I will have to be sure and use that sometime, if only for the novelty of having a coupon for sports cards (and the trade bait, oh the tradebait).

Btw, when is topps going to realize that the flagship set’s base cards look better without the foil and ditch it.  The price-per-card of Opening day and regular is about the same anyway.  Just lose the messy, hard to read foil touches on the name already.  Jeez.

New Hawks and Fukudomes make it worth getting up in the morning. 🙂

And Ryan Dempster is staring into your soul.  He says it’s dark and moist in your soul, like a humid midwestern night, and that it smells like burnt cheese and Hai Karate.  Is that normal?

I don’t even want to talk about the Cubs this year and Soriano being the only guy being an offensive threat and hitting home runs means I can’t blame it on him.  So I’m just going to move on to the big prize.  A prize so rich that it completes my unlikely trifecta of one of the hottest young stars in all of sports!  Behold!

Derr-... Soriano?!

Oh yeah, there were two of these Heritage Fonzies.  Neither one seems to be a variation or anything, so I’ll be sure to send one along to the BigD crew when I get around to trading with them (got a TON of stuff for you guys).

The Big Prize..

That’s more like it!  A jumbo swatch from one of the longstanding favorites of Donruss and now Panini’s stalwart Absolute Memorabilia brand: Tools of the Trade.  The card is #’ed /49 and has a nice-but-not-obnoxiously-overbearing-shine that the scan doesn’t pick up at all.  All in all, it’s an outstanding addition to my collection, and a great way to cap off what may be my first (if not, then still only second completed trifecta.

I do have one gripe, and it’s for Panini.  It would be nice if they said what the swatch was supposed to be.  I just figured it was jersey when I watched it being pulled over on ustream, but the lil white dots you see on the swatch are kinda… shimmery, I guess, and the fabric is softer than any that of any other jersey cards I had on hand.  It also feels slightly thicker/puffier than plain jersey, but not enough to think it’s a shoe or prime/patch.  I really have no clue what it’s supposed to be.  Too hazard an insane guess, I’d say it’s some part of a tuxedo.  It is kinda satiny-feeling, now that I think about it.  None of the obvious choices seem right, so why not?

So yeah, until I find out otherwise, this is Derrick Rose-worn tuxedo.  That classes up my trifecta a bit.  Haha, yeah! 😛  Thanks, Marie!  Will have your stuff out this week.  Bye.

More jumbo swatchy goodness next time...

Gypsy Queen is Sexy

Some stuffs from my retail value pack:

Mariano Rivera Framed Paper parallel /999. Pee Wee Reese, Josh Hamilton, and DerekGreen Framed bonus parallels. Johnny Mize SP. Alex Rodriguez Jersey! Hank Conger & Rogers Hornsby regular minis, Edwin Jackson Gypsy Queen back mini..

Not the best picture, but as with the binder pages from the flea market, pretty solid for webcam.  Doesn’t even begin to do these beauties justice though.  Not even scan do these bad mamma-jammas justice, though.  You gots to see them in person for yourself.  I’m going to make a most likely futile attempt at collecting either the bonus or Framed Paper parallel sets, so if you got, I’m after ’em.  Everything else except Hornsby is available, but you better come right if you want ARod.

In other news, I FINALLY got some packages sent.  My Cardboard Mistress, Punk Rock Paint, Sooz, and Paul‘s stuff is on the way.  Marie‘s will be going out once I find out if I should include any Lakers.

Guess that’ll do it for this one.  Gonna bust a (full 24-pack) box of Upper Deck Disney-Pixar Treasures that I picked up for $9.99 at Target last night, and possibly call the police on my upstairs neighbor if the f***ing thumping doesn’t stop (and will be logging my 4th complaint [not counting two or three other occasions I intended to, but didn’t get to it] with the office regardless, all in less than two damn months!).

Rant mode off.

Seriously, Gypsy Queen is worth buying…

Blaster Stuffs Part 1

Awhile back (mid-November I think) I picked up some blasters at Shopko.  All $20 ones were on sale for $14.99, and I had a thing for $10 off a $40 or more purchase, so that knocked an extra $2.50 off each of the four I picked up, making them $12.50 apiece.  They were all 2010, topps206, topps Heritage, topps Chrome (all baseball), and Bowman Platinum (football).  So here’s a look at what I pulled from 206 and Heritage.  We’ll do the Chrome and Platinum another day.

My only two probable keepers from the 206 blaster..

A few of the better bronze parallels. Might keep Cueto due to the epic hair on display.
A mini penny and a history card that’s actually baseball related.
The backs of the Historical Events cards for those that care..
The regular backed minis.
See? Regular backs.
Finally, the mini parallels.
The Baseball Caramels (Pettitte/Feliz) backs are 1:4 packs I guess. The Old Mill (Volquez) is something like 1:20 or 1:22.

Not a great blaster, but the the price being 37.5%-off helped.  Oh yeah, there was a King Felix base card that I’m too lazy to finish editing down to size that I’m keeping.  Also not pictured, Mike Leake RC, and hat SPs of Ryan Braun and Mantle.

Now then, onto the topps Heritage.

First up, some Baseball Thrills. Might keep a couple of these (Hornsby is going to Cards on Cards) unless someone else wants them.
Lots of star power on this one, and a keeper on account of the Ichiro-ness.
My other keeper. Then & Now Whitey & The King.
The shortprints..
Finally, the big hit of the blaster, a Jeets Chrome #’ed to /1961.

Not the greatest blaster, but much better than the 206, for the better keepers from more important personal collections and a better best pull at least.

Seeya next time, when I either get back to the Check Out My Cards stuff, do a trade post, or the second part this with the shinier blasters.  Maybe I’ll even do my best pulls of 2010 list, but probably not.

UPDATE: Can someone please tell me why the borders have gone all wonky in some of my recent posts.  It’s really annoying me. 😡

The new year begins…

Trade With Marie

So I finally got around to sending card stuffs (most notably that Ticket to Stardom Pujols Ticket stub) to Marie in December, so she sent some cards back.  As it turns out, that is how trading works. 😛

Anyway, here are all the cards I didn’t have already:

Starting off strong with numbered Zambrano and Ichiro and an awesome Rogers Hornsby insert...

The Riot and a couple of sweet '08 Sweet Spot base cards. I think I like 'em even better than the '09s. David Ortiz... now that's a real athletes body right there. Cool to get him since it doesn't happen very often anymore.

The good baseball playing Hoffpaiur on old school SP-style. Much like refractors and holograms, one can never have too many die-cuts.

Here’s a Soriano and the back of the Hoff.  Not a big fan of the topps206 base cards.  Not close to A&G, everything is way better than Uncanny Valley Goudey, it’s on par with Goodwin Champions, a bit below Obak.  And topps Heritage & UD O-Pee-Chee are N/A cuz they aren’t artsy and OPC doesn’t rip off any specific sets (not that there wasn’t an intention to for the parallels).  I’m sick of retro sets in general, but that’s a matter for another post.

Finally, the hits:

Ryno with porn stache and Aramis Goodwin Champions jerseys. Awesome!

I actually got the same Aramis from my Secret Santa at almost the same time.  I thought it might be karmic retribution for contemplating selling the Pujols after offering it to Marie, but there are at least four reasons that doesn’t make sense, none that are worth going into here.  And although facial hair is a pain in the butt (for my lazy arse at least), cards depicting Ryne Sandberg with a ‘stache never, ever go out of style.  Love the ivy behind him too.  That is so cool.  About as perfect as a card of a Cub can get.

And that, was an awesome trade.

I’m gonna be so sad if Hawk goes into The Hall as an Expo, but if the Cubs don’t retire his number regardless, I’m totally jumping ship for a year-and-a-half like I did when they traded Maddux when I was little, I’m just sayin’.

I’m serious man, I’ll totally do it! >=/
